Brussels Sprouts are Healthy AND Delicious!

As a child, I don't really remember having Brussels sprouts. We probably had them, and being the kind of kid I was I'm sure I didn't bother trying them. Thankfully, my willingness to try different foods has increased as I have gotten older.

About 2 years ago, we were given a gift certificate for dinner at DB Bistro (Thanks, Michele!). We enjoyed an incredible tasting menu with wine pairings. My main entree was accompanied by Brussels sprouts. This vegetable was prepared perfectly, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really liked them. If you are ever in NYC and have the chance, do try to make it to one of Chef Daniel Boloud's restaurants - you won't be disappointed.

After enjoying that amazing meal, the one thing I've often thought I should try serving to my family was Brussels sprouts. I've done a bit of searching for ideas on how to prepare them, but decided to keep it simple this time.

I started by sautéing them in a bit of extra virgin olive oil. I then added a squirt of lemon juice, a sprinkle of Kosher salt and about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper. They were done in just a few minutes.
While My Boys were unimpressed, My Husband enjoyed them. I thought they were a nice change from the usual veggies. I think I'll try roasting them next time to see if My Boys will be enticed into eating them again.

I found a few other blogs with Brussels sprouts on them - check them out. You may be inspired to try them yourself.

Wow these look full of healthy goodness, I enjoy Brussels Sprouts, although would you believe I have not had them in over 12 years, mum would make them on the holidays and I miss them, I am off to find them, might have to take a small trip downtown though = ) Bring on the greens!

OK - my husband (not a big veggie eater) said he really wants me to make brussel sprouts soon. Not sure why, but this sounds like a simple and yummy way to cook it!

I LOVE Brussels! They are one of my top veggies. I love them pretty simple- kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, and waaaay too much butter, lol! My oldest daughter is the only one that loves them, right behind cabbage. She is nuts over anything cabbage. I will have to get some tomorrow, however, I'll skip the butter...

I really like brussel sprouts...my favorite way to cook them is roasted. They get all crunchy on the outside. I bet these tasted great with that squirt of lemon!

I love brussel sprouts unfortunatly, my little family hates them. When I was little, I would always call them little cabbages. My friends would always joke that I would eat chocolate covered brussel sprouts. Now thats where I do draw the line. LOL

I never had Brussels sprouts as a child, either, but I love them now!

I'm lucky that my family loves Brussels sprouts, because I do too! Do you remember the old Leave It to Beaver episode where "THE BEAVE" refuses to eat Brussels sprouts? I just thought of that when you said your boys were unimpressed. ;)

If you ever get a chance, try my version. It's somewhere on my blog, around Sept or Oct. I slice the sprouts very thinly and saute them in bacon fat with red grapes, pecans and apple cider vinegar. Every BS hater I've ever served them to has loved them. Your kids might like them too.

We are fans of Brussels sprouts here -- roasted, sauteed are our faves. So easy and healthy -- even my 16 year old likes them. This is making me wish I'd picked some up at the market today.

We eat a lot of roasted Brussels sprouts but haven't tried sauteing them yet. This looks like a nice simple recipe.
